Vijay Mahantesh

Vijay is a NZ-trained psychotherapist with extensive experience in providing both short- and long-term counselling and therapy. He specialises in helping people with their sadness and anxiety arising from relationship difficulties, work-related stress, or history of trauma and abuse. For almost 20 years, Vijay has also supported people with anger management, ‘meaning of life’ issues, and sexuality or sexual expression.

Training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and a Master of Psychotherapy (Honors, 1st Class) forms the backbone of Vijay’s therapeutic approach. In addition, he finds it useful to draw on the vast body of literature related to attachment theory, intergenerational trauma, and neuroscience.

Vijay is experienced in functional behavioural analysis, crisis prevention, solution-focused brief therapy, and family therapy models. Therefore, he also appreciates using a practical approach to help bring about change where appropriate.

When you begin psychotherapy with Vijay, you are likely to find him working alongside you to find the approach that best suits your needs.

Vijay is a mindfulness practitioner and certified yoga instructor therefore he makes the most of any opportunity to align mind and body. When not at work, Vijay likes to stretch his creative self by engaging in woodwork and pottery.

At present, Vijay is only able to see clients at his office on High Street in Auckland CBD.
